Social Program
Tuesday, May 3th, 2011

For this year's social event, we will start at 2:30 PM and have a 15 minute walk to the Dana Wharf, which is right down the hill of the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. We will then board on Dana Pride to enjoy a whale watching excursion from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

The month of May is typically when the Blue Whales arrive. These gentle giants are the largest mammal on earth. They come to feed off the rich krill, which are naturally produced just a few miles off the coast of Dana Point.

Join us for a two hour excursion in search of marine wildlife. Board the boat and within three minutes it will be out in the open waters. Our guests will spend the afternoon cruising up and down the spectacular south Orange County Coastline and may view areas such as Strands Beach in Dana Point, South Laguna, San Clemente Pier and Seal Rock. Wildlife typically seen include common dolphin, California sea lions, seals, cormorant, pelicans and sea gulls. The adventure offers the chance to see Gray or Blue Whales, Fin, Humpbacks, Orcas and Minke whales, sharks and other exciting marine life.

Guests should come prepared with the following:
  • Wear non-slip shoes (athletic or tennis shoes)
  • Dress in layers as it is usually 10 to 15 degrees cooler on the water
  • Apply sun screen, wear a hat and sunglasses
  • Bring a camera and/or binoculars
A short video for the whale watching excursion can be seen here

After the whale watching excursion, we will head back to the resort for the gala dinner. We will chill in the wine and great food of the southern California and enjoy the networking in the evening.

There is no extra cost for this program for VTS attendees who register at member and non-member rates. Students and companions of VTS attendees can register for the Excursion and the Gala Dinner for $50 and $120 per person, respectively.
